Pinterest Inspiration Thursday #2

Hello. Valentines is tomorrow! I'm kinda pinked out right now, and decided to post my romantic pins from Pinterest. I have been loving this clock. When I find the perfect one...watch out bedazzler!

Unfortunately there is no back link for his gem.

Next. This gorgeous light switch plate.

Again, no back link. But I think I would do this myself. {future project}

Lastly, a relaxing bath.

I really want to make a cedar bench for my en suite soaker tub. {one more to-do}

Hope you enjoyed my Romantic Pins.

Thank you and take care.

In Search of Fresh Powder

I am so excited! Today, we are off to Fernie, BC. Time of departure is in 4 hours. The snow cast says up to a foot of fresh powder. I just giggle inside when others post how they can't wait for flowers and grass to grow. I can't wait for deep fresh snow.

This is the quaint town of Fernie, BC. Gosh how I wish we could pick up and move there. One day....

I wanted to share a few pics from our trip in December, to Jasper, AB. I love a good cup of coffee in the early hours + I'm Canadian = Tim Hortons

Have you ever seen a more pristine coffee shop?

This is Marmott Basin, which is the ski hill in Jasper, from the top. That's my youngest down by the sign.

Here's a few of myself and Family, taking selfies :) The first photo was our family pic in Christmas Cards this year.

Photo bombed from the back :(

My oldest stuck in some deep snow.

I don't normally share family pictures, but in lew of this trip, I haven't had time for projects this week. Here in Alberta, Canada, we are celebrating Family Day this weekend. I couldn't imagine a better way to spend my Family Day!
 What would you do on Family Day?

Thank you and take care!

Big Red

Oh the weather outside is frightful

But my furniture's so delightful

And since we've no place to go

I will paint! I will paint! I will paint!

I love the feeling of Christmas with 3 feet of snow to go with it!

Right now I'm busy finishing up some end tables, which I will post next week. So in the mean time I thought I could follow up on a picture I posted previously.

Found it at my local thrift shop in summer. Beauty, right? It sat in my husbands man cave garage for 2 months. Towards the end of summer it was being threatened with eviction...so I decided to tackle it. I first tried to use MMSP Tricyle Red, with the hopes it would chip.

Nope. Decided not to chip. {don't you love how that works?}

Then I tried to wax it. Nope. Looked all blotchy. For some reason  the wax absorbed in some places and some places not at all. If anyone has an answer to this, please share.

SO, then I tried some Annie Sloan Emperor's Silk. Went on great. Perfect finish, etc. Waxed the mammoth and buffed her out. I should include this was still in my husbands man cave garage. Two days later I go out to take pictures and there is a giant scrape the size of a playing card on the top. ARGH!

Needless to say, I was back at it.

Sand out the scrape, paint, wax and buff! {third time} and get it out of the garage quick. I think it was worth the effort.

This is my favorite angle.

The handles kinda remind me of bamboo shoots.

This piece went to a great home to be used for a tv stand. {crammed and transported in a Rav4}

Till next time, stay warm and take care.

Party time!

Back on

Hello...I'd like to start by apologizing to my followers. I have not been very committed to this blog. I discovered this spring, that I don't like to paint in summer. Not even a smidge. Second, I give credit to the people that post every day! {not me} I won't give you any excuses, but commit to posting my furniture upcycles until summer.

I don't have a before for this one. I love the curves and handles. This was my fav dresser thus far.

I found this sofa table. Pretty bland, and I wasn't sure on what to do with it.

Voila! Kind of a beachy color? The lady that picked it up, was using it for a photo shoot, my table will be shown off in many homes.

Here's another one, with no before. I am lovin the teal and rich wood tone.

Here's one more night stand, I LOVE the tone in the picture.

Mirror Re-Vamp

I can't believe it is almost spring. The snow is starting to melt, and I hope people start spring cleaning soon! I picked up a mirror at a thrift shop, I can't believe that i missed a before picture. It appeared to have multiple coats of gloss paint, with the last color chocolate brown. It really was a drab mirror. I loved the detail of the corners, gave me a CoUnTrY ChIc look.
The next piece was your typical 80's end table....

Please excuse the poor pic. Here she is all shiny and new!

I used a latex enamel paint, I now started adding Plaster of Paris to convert it to chalk paint. I like the texture and application as opposed to no plaster. Gave it a light sand and another coat. I love using RL glaze in the crevices, then a coat of Varathane. I'm not a big fan of brass hard ware with this tone. So, I sprayed them with ORB {oil rubbed bronze} spray paint. Hope you like!

First Nightstand

Hello, I was able to start on my nightstand sooner than possible. My youngest came down with the flu today. Little people just shouldn't be that sick. I think throwing up should be reserved as punishment when you drink too much only! Well so here was the original picture.
I loved the detail, the moment our eyes met. I should start with a disclaimer-this is my first nightstand. Yup, I'm a virgin nightstand painter. So, by no means is my advice sound, but it works for me <i think>. So I started by giving her a light sanding, luckily there was nothing major. This piece is covered in some sort of veneer, so I also decided to spray with KILZ. I've read that that will allow the paint to attach to the smooth surface better.
Isn't she a beauty? Not quite yet. I did another light sand, just a few blobs. I wiped her down, and set to work with the paint. I chose BEHR-Caribe, from Home Depot. Grabbed a sample size, which would probably do 2-3 of this sized project. Than I distressed a bit and set to glazing. For this I chose Ralph Lauren-Tobacco Glaze. I love the color, but they don't sell Ralphs line in Canada anymore. I had it shipped from www.monarchpaintdc.com. The shipping was a little more than expected, I think $35 for 2 cans. In any case, if you know where I can order this in Canada or for a good price, let me know.
I've included a picture with the glaze on and after I wiped.

I love the look. I set to work on the rest of the nightstand, but chose to not wipe. Should have wiped, but was too late. Overall, I'm happy with the results, would wipe next time.

And a cute picture using my handy dandy Instagram app.

Beautiful! Until next time.
