Chalk Paint Grey Side Board

Hello. Hope everyone is enjoying their Saturday. Mine is going to be great, I can tell. The weather has finally lifted here and I can smell spring in the air. It tickles my nose and lingers with freshness. I may just have to make a stop while I'm out, and grab a bouquet of fresh flowers.

Here's the handsome fellow I worked on last night. Below, is how he looked before.

Pretty average. I was drawn to the detail in the side doors. It did come as a full hutch, but the upper part had this ugly  unique fabric as the back panel and trimmed around all the glass. Typically, I could have pulled it off the back panel and painted it. I can not work with it around the glass, not with out many tears. The store kept it to sell seperately.

I re-stained the top with Varathane Gel Stain in Dark Walnut. Check out this post, to see my previous project using  the Gel Stain.

I wanted to show you, how it can tone down any discolorations in the wood. The top on this piece had yellowed a bit from sunlight. All fixed now.

I also used some Rub'n Buff Gold leaf on the handles. Take a look at this post to see the "how to". I think they turned out perfect.

I did light brush strokes on the side doors, too keep the depth and detail.

What a handsome piece.

Before and after.

Thanks for stopping by today, I hope you have a wonderful weekend. Take care.

Our furry family member, Cali. She's even smiling for me.

Graphite Tables

Hello. Hope your enjoying your Sunday. It's kinda cold out here at minus -26 C (-15 F). Which I guess really isn't that bad, but I'm done with winter. I think I've hit that point in the winter, when I've just had enough! I want to paint in day light hours, be able to take fab pictures anytime and not have to rush home after work to get natural light. {anyone use photographers lights?those big circle ones?}
Anywho, I wanted to showcase a set that was brought to me from far away, 6 hours to be precise. I wish I had taken before pics, but I never seem to remember. That should have been my New Years resolution.

What do you think? I painted these with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Graphite. I was hoping for a more richer black... but loved the slate color. I used 2 coats of Annie Sloan ark Soft Wax.

When painting, I used random direction strokes to built lots of grooves. This way I could work the dark wax into all the lines and crevices.

I just love the profile of these babes!

I tried turning the window in this one. I love to paint, but have no experience in photography.

Inspiration Thursday #1

Alright, I'm going to try something new. I'm going to start sharing my favorite pins every week. I tell ya, if I spent a quarter of the time blogging, that I spend on Pinterest.....I'd be a great blogger. But I feel lazy sometimes and just plain tired after work and kids, that I find it hard to sit down and work some more. For me it comes in streaks, inspiration must hit.

Some of my favorite pins this week include

I am lovin this lamp. LOVE! LOVE! LOVE! I came across her blog, selah joy company. Checkout her home tour. I was drooling and pinning like crazy.

Nothing gets my country girl more excited than some rust and chippy paint. There are too many good things going on in this picture for me to start. This came from Laura at 52 flea

Lastly, This diagonal feature wall. I have a similar wall space in my bedroom, minus the side windows. I think this would look perfect!

Here's a little inspiration from my Pinterest page. You can follow me at here.

Thank you and take care.
