Steel Grey 9 Drawer Brute

Hello. Happy Saturday. I love sleeping in and reading a book in the morning. As opposed to weekday mornings, gym at 5:30 am and work at 7:30. So yes, I fully enjoy the two mornings a week that I get to sleep in.

I finished up this gem yesterday, and I am loving the grey tone I mixed up. I had a little bit of Paris Grey from Annie Sloan Chalk Paint left, so I added some Behr White latex and a smidge of Graphite from ASCP. Painted the first coat, but it seemed a bit to light for my liken. I added in some more Graphite to make it darker and voila! Kind of a steel grey, very masculine.

Here's my fav close up. You can see the lighter tone peeking through, and the rich dark brown. I wish I had a before picture.

Great view from up top.

Petite curvy feet.

The handles I found in my bag of extras. At Christmas when my Mom came down, she brought me a bag of handles that she had been collecting all year for me. Your the BEST Mom! These handles were gold, so I gave them a blast of Rustoleum Spray Paint in Matt Black. I used some Annie Sloan Soft Wax to buff them up. I like the look. They kinda look like country farm handles.

My oldest daughter tried to claim this one. I will take that as a compliment.

 I hope you enjoyed the pictures. I'm sorry it wasn't much of a tutorial. As a matter of fact, I don't think the pictures would have been that great. I did most of my painting between 8-11 pm. Really poor light at this time of year.

Thank you and take care.

Big Red

Oh the weather outside is frightful

But my furniture's so delightful

And since we've no place to go

I will paint! I will paint! I will paint!

I love the feeling of Christmas with 3 feet of snow to go with it!

Right now I'm busy finishing up some end tables, which I will post next week. So in the mean time I thought I could follow up on a picture I posted previously.

Found it at my local thrift shop in summer. Beauty, right? It sat in my husbands man cave garage for 2 months. Towards the end of summer it was being threatened with eviction...so I decided to tackle it. I first tried to use MMSP Tricyle Red, with the hopes it would chip.

Nope. Decided not to chip. {don't you love how that works?}

Then I tried to wax it. Nope. Looked all blotchy. For some reason  the wax absorbed in some places and some places not at all. If anyone has an answer to this, please share.

SO, then I tried some Annie Sloan Emperor's Silk. Went on great. Perfect finish, etc. Waxed the mammoth and buffed her out. I should include this was still in my husbands man cave garage. Two days later I go out to take pictures and there is a giant scrape the size of a playing card on the top. ARGH!

Needless to say, I was back at it.

Sand out the scrape, paint, wax and buff! {third time} and get it out of the garage quick. I think it was worth the effort.

This is my favorite angle.

The handles kinda remind me of bamboo shoots.

This piece went to a great home to be used for a tv stand. {crammed and transported in a Rav4}

Till next time, stay warm and take care.

Party time!

Black Friday/Black Beauty

Good Monday. Well some days I wish I lived South of the border, the sales are sooo much better down there. So instead of waiting outside a store for hours, I started working on this hutch. Which has been sitting in my front room for 5 weeks.{thanks for loving my furniture,hubby}
Pretty good looking to start with, some would have kept it the same. {SOME} But not those that have caught the painting bug.....by the way if anyone comes across a vaccination for the furniture painting bug, please let me know. I thought in the mood of Black Friday-why not black? I sanded down the shine and went to work.
She sure is a beauty. Check out those delicate feet and prissy details. I was going to spray the fixtures, but loved the gold look. What do you think?
Here's a good pic of the slight distressing, I tried to not over do it. Finding that balance of the perfect wear can be tough at times.

On another note, remember this decor?

I forgot to take a before, but you get the picture. I bought them for 50 cents.

Love these! Totally new life for the wall decor, they could see another 20 years.

Please remember to check out my previous post. The draw for the Home Depot Gift Card is coming soon, I'd love to have more ideas. Take care.

1970's..I think?

Wow, look out hubby. I have a new love in my life! 1970's style furniture. When I see the curves and accents, my cheeks blush. I adore the way the stain clings to every nook and cranny. These ladies were at Good will, who would give them up? Not I!
What do you think? Pretty FaBuLoUs?

Since I love Home Depot, I'm doin a give-a-way.

Welcome

Welcome to Chic By Tab. I'm Tabatha (Tab), a Canadian with a passion for everything shabby chic.

Family picture-October 2,2012

Here is a picture of my family, they put up with my junk hunting and hoarding. Our garage is holding some of my recent finds......not going over too well, as he is a garage man.

I totally forgot to take a picture before. So I went online and found the table on Kijiji, this is the exact one. I sprayed a coat of Kilz and sanded it a little with a fine grit. Next was the beautiful paint, I LOVE THIS COLOR!
Voila!

Turned out perfect! Distressed just enough. I adore the red peeking through the blue.

First blog post (check).
