First Chalk Paint Hutch

Decisions, decisions. Why do I find choosing colors sooo hard? Is it because I will never come across another hutch of this style? Or because I paid so little, and don't want to waste my saved dollars on multiple coats? DO others take time to ponder the rainbow? I would love to let this beauty sit in my formal room, but unfortunately I'm tight on space. So this is what I have.
I love every detail on this beauty. Now do you see my dilemma? I don't want to waste such a work of art. Some of my ideas include.....Blue, teal, aqua. See the pattern?

This is a great color choice from Marty's Musings.
I love the 2 tone blue, from Stiltskin Studios.

This could work, from The Shabbiest Chick.

 What do you think?

On a side note....it's almost Friday! Hello.

Mirror Re-Vamp

I can't believe it is almost spring. The snow is starting to melt, and I hope people start spring cleaning soon! I picked up a mirror at a thrift shop, I can't believe that i missed a before picture. It appeared to have multiple coats of gloss paint, with the last color chocolate brown. It really was a drab mirror. I loved the detail of the corners, gave me a CoUnTrY ChIc look.
The next piece was your typical 80's end table....

Please excuse the poor pic. Here she is all shiny and new!

I used a latex enamel paint, I now started adding Plaster of Paris to convert it to chalk paint. I like the texture and application as opposed to no plaster. Gave it a light sand and another coat. I love using RL glaze in the crevices, then a coat of Varathane. I'm not a big fan of brass hard ware with this tone. So, I sprayed them with ORB {oil rubbed bronze} spray paint. Hope you like!

10 more sleeps...but who's counting?

Where has the time gone. Is it just me or does December fly by? I have about 8 pieces lined up for my magic, but no time.

I really have a thing for these end tables. I can't believe how ugly different they look before and after {i forgot to take a before}. If you look at my previous posts, you'll get the picture. I used Caribe by Behr, Ralph Lauren Glaze in Tobacco, and sprayed the handles with Oil Rubbed Bronze. . If you haven't used Oil Rubbed Bronze from Rustoleum, YOU BETTER GET A CAN! This stuff is magic.

When we first moved in, everything was gold.

Took off the gold plates and sprayed them with the Oil Rubbed Bronze, just like new. Saved us over a $100 per door, our house has 4 of these locks! That is huge savings, not including every other gold decor in my house. I've also seen this used with silver or brushed nickle spray paint.
Take care!

Amelia

Wow, what a busy weekend. Isn't it funny how you wait all week for your 2 days off, and they're busier than Monday to Friday. In the chaos called life, I painted 2 pieces of furniture.
Remember these 2 ladies? I'm still waiting for color selection for the bottom. If you could give me some ideas(and enter for a chance to win a Home Depot GC), check out my previous post. This is Ameilia...

I seem to have a thing for teal.

So this end table, gave me grief. I started it over a month ago, but wasn't happy with the way it turned out. I decided to two-tone the color. Much better{smile}.

PERRRRTY!

Overall....great weekend, and I learnt how to water mark! Take care.

Parties!

First Nightstand

Hello, I was able to start on my nightstand sooner than possible. My youngest came down with the flu today. Little people just shouldn't be that sick. I think throwing up should be reserved as punishment when you drink too much only! Well so here was the original picture.
I loved the detail, the moment our eyes met. I should start with a disclaimer-this is my first nightstand. Yup, I'm a virgin nightstand painter. So, by no means is my advice sound, but it works for me <i think>. So I started by giving her a light sanding, luckily there was nothing major. This piece is covered in some sort of veneer, so I also decided to spray with KILZ. I've read that that will allow the paint to attach to the smooth surface better.
Isn't she a beauty? Not quite yet. I did another light sand, just a few blobs. I wiped her down, and set to work with the paint. I chose BEHR-Caribe, from Home Depot. Grabbed a sample size, which would probably do 2-3 of this sized project. Than I distressed a bit and set to glazing. For this I chose Ralph Lauren-Tobacco Glaze. I love the color, but they don't sell Ralphs line in Canada anymore. I had it shipped from www.monarchpaintdc.com. The shipping was a little more than expected, I think $35 for 2 cans. In any case, if you know where I can order this in Canada or for a good price, let me know.
I've included a picture with the glaze on and after I wiped.

I love the look. I set to work on the rest of the nightstand, but chose to not wipe. Should have wiped, but was too late. Overall, I'm happy with the results, would wipe next time.

And a cute picture using my handy dandy Instagram app.

Beautiful! Until next time.

Do as I preach

Yay! 13 views. The hardest part about starting a blog, is BLOGGING. As I scour through others posts, I search for ones that update weekly. I vowed to myself," if I were to blog, I would have regular postings". I dislike waiting and wondering if I missed the email, to find that there has not been a post for a month. Now it's easy to stand on my soap box.........we'll discuss this again at a later date.

SO, next project is this battered night stand.

Boy that picture looks awful, I will be looking into editing software ASAP. Anywho, this is the canvas.

And here is the vision...

My inspiration came from a talented lady from www.getjunqued.com, check out her site. SO, wish me good luck and I will post the pic on Thurs*fingers crossed*. I'm just getting my feet wet in trash to treasure adventures. I hope you join me on my journey.

Welcome

Welcome to Chic By Tab. I'm Tabatha (Tab), a Canadian with a passion for everything shabby chic.

Family picture-October 2,2012

Here is a picture of my family, they put up with my junk hunting and hoarding. Our garage is holding some of my recent finds......not going over too well, as he is a garage man.

I totally forgot to take a picture before. So I went online and found the table on Kijiji, this is the exact one. I sprayed a coat of Kilz and sanded it a little with a fine grit. Next was the beautiful paint, I LOVE THIS COLOR!
Voila!

Turned out perfect! Distressed just enough. I adore the red peeking through the blue.

First blog post (check).
