Duck Egg Side Board for Easter Dinner

Hello. I wanted to squeeze in this post before we leave for the weekend to my in-laws. I had a client contact me to have a side board re-done. She really likes the over distressed look, which isn't my forte. Thank goodness she put her trust in me, because the piece turned out fabulous. Unfortunately the hardware is not on, as they're still drying on my garage floor. And I'm pretty sure I won't be able to lug this out to take a picture before she comes next week. So here it is. Ready for her to show off at Easter Dinner!

I actually had two firsts with this side board.
1. Over distressing (baby steps, next time I will do more)
2. Using Duck Egg Chalk Paint by Annie Sloan

I love the tone.

Lots of extra distressing.

Before and after.

Hope you liked my first Duck Egg project. I think you might see more of this color. Thanks for stopping by and enjoy your weekend.

Party Time!

Steel Grey 9 Drawer Brute

Hello. Happy Saturday. I love sleeping in and reading a book in the morning. As opposed to weekday mornings, gym at 5:30 am and work at 7:30. So yes, I fully enjoy the two mornings a week that I get to sleep in.

I finished up this gem yesterday, and I am loving the grey tone I mixed up. I had a little bit of Paris Grey from Annie Sloan Chalk Paint left, so I added some Behr White latex and a smidge of Graphite from ASCP. Painted the first coat, but it seemed a bit to light for my liken. I added in some more Graphite to make it darker and voila! Kind of a steel grey, very masculine.

Here's my fav close up. You can see the lighter tone peeking through, and the rich dark brown. I wish I had a before picture.

Great view from up top.

Petite curvy feet.

The handles I found in my bag of extras. At Christmas when my Mom came down, she brought me a bag of handles that she had been collecting all year for me. Your the BEST Mom! These handles were gold, so I gave them a blast of Rustoleum Spray Paint in Matt Black. I used some Annie Sloan Soft Wax to buff them up. I like the look. They kinda look like country farm handles.

My oldest daughter tried to claim this one. I will take that as a compliment.

I hope you enjoyed the pictures. I'm sorry it wasn't much of a tutorial. As a matter of fact, I don't think the pictures would have been that great. I did most of my painting between 8-11 pm. Really poor light at this time of year.

Thank you and take care.

Back on

Hello...I'd like to start by apologizing to my followers. I have not been very committed to this blog. I discovered this spring, that I don't like to paint in summer. Not even a smidge. Second, I give credit to the people that post every day! {not me} I won't give you any excuses, but commit to posting my furniture upcycles until summer.

I don't have a before for this one. I love the curves and handles. This was my fav dresser thus far.

I found this sofa table. Pretty bland, and I wasn't sure on what to do with it.

Voila! Kind of a beachy color? The lady that picked it up, was using it for a photo shoot, my table will be shown off in many homes.

Here's another one, with no before. I am lovin the teal and rich wood tone.

Here's one more night stand, I LOVE the tone in the picture.

White Hutch...well half a hutch!

What a weekend. My youngest has been sick since Thursday, which makes everything a little harder here. The good news she is eating, the bad news is: the fever and rash just won't "GET LOST"!
Alright, I caved and picked up 2 cans of Annie Sloan Paint.{Insert Sigh} I wanted to paint a hutch, and see how far a can would go.
Let me be the millionth to say "This stuff is all it is cracked up to be". I mean it. I put 2 coats on, and the coverage was fantastic. I wasn't happy with the consistency of the paint, so I added a tablespoon of water to 1/2 cup of paint....Perfecto.
I decided to distress before waxing. Everyone is right, it creates a LOT of dust. Luckily I have central vac, and I sucked up all that dust in a cinch.

I love white, which you wouldn't be able to tell from my previous posts. Believe it or not, I think this is my first white piece!

This is the whole thing. I love the top, but it is quite ginormous. Seriously. Not sure what I'll do with the top now? Any ideas?

{Hi Stella}

So just to recap:
1. No prep...just like everyone says.
2. Easy to apply.
3. Used 1/4 of my can.
4. Distressing + before waxing = Lots of DuSt!
5. I love Miss Mustard Seed Wax.

First Chalk Paint Hutch

Decisions, decisions. Why do I find choosing colors sooo hard? Is it because I will never come across another hutch of this style? Or because I paid so little, and don't want to waste my saved dollars on multiple coats? DO others take time to ponder the rainbow? I would love to let this beauty sit in my formal room, but unfortunately I'm tight on space. So this is what I have.
I love every detail on this beauty. Now do you see my dilemma? I don't want to waste such a work of art. Some of my ideas include.....Blue, teal, aqua. See the pattern?

This is a great color choice from Marty's Musings.
I love the 2 tone blue, from Stiltskin Studios.

This could work, from The Shabbiest Chick.

 What do you think?

On a side note....it's almost Friday! Hello.

Life?

Do YOU ever feel like life is rolling faster then your legs can carry you? That's the story of the last month at my house. I have a child in a competitive sport, which takes 16 hours a week. Now add that on top of my 40 hours a week job. Oh yeah, I forgot I have another child that likes to swim and do gymnastics....Can't forget my lovely husband, who insists we get our house organized. I mean its only been 3 months since we moved in? I have a few projects on the go. This being the first to be finished.

I thought she looked pretty good before, but was in need of a face lift.

Now she is ready for many more years. I used a custom color, red with a smidge of black {like that?}. I made sure to use my favorite RL Tobacco glaze. Then finished her off with a clear wax coat. Next item...promised to be done soon.

Take care.

Amelia

Wow, what a busy weekend. Isn't it funny how you wait all week for your 2 days off, and they're busier than Monday to Friday. In the chaos called life, I painted 2 pieces of furniture.
Remember these 2 ladies? I'm still waiting for color selection for the bottom. If you could give me some ideas(and enter for a chance to win a Home Depot GC), check out my previous post. This is Ameilia...

I seem to have a thing for teal.

So this end table, gave me grief. I started it over a month ago, but wasn't happy with the way it turned out. I decided to two-tone the color. Much better{smile}.

PERRRRTY!

Overall....great weekend, and I learnt how to water mark! Take care.

Parties!

First Nightstand

Hello, I was able to start on my nightstand sooner than possible. My youngest came down with the flu today. Little people just shouldn't be that sick. I think throwing up should be reserved as punishment when you drink too much only! Well so here was the original picture.
I loved the detail, the moment our eyes met. I should start with a disclaimer-this is my first nightstand. Yup, I'm a virgin nightstand painter. So, by no means is my advice sound, but it works for me <i think>. So I started by giving her a light sanding, luckily there was nothing major. This piece is covered in some sort of veneer, so I also decided to spray with KILZ. I've read that that will allow the paint to attach to the smooth surface better.
Isn't she a beauty? Not quite yet. I did another light sand, just a few blobs. I wiped her down, and set to work with the paint. I chose BEHR-Caribe, from Home Depot. Grabbed a sample size, which would probably do 2-3 of this sized project. Than I distressed a bit and set to glazing. For this I chose Ralph Lauren-Tobacco Glaze. I love the color, but they don't sell Ralphs line in Canada anymore. I had it shipped from www.monarchpaintdc.com. The shipping was a little more than expected, I think $35 for 2 cans. In any case, if you know where I can order this in Canada or for a good price, let me know.
I've included a picture with the glaze on and after I wiped.

I love the look. I set to work on the rest of the nightstand, but chose to not wipe. Should have wiped, but was too late. Overall, I'm happy with the results, would wipe next time.

And a cute picture using my handy dandy Instagram app.

Beautiful! Until next time.

Do as I preach

Yay! 13 views. The hardest part about starting a blog, is BLOGGING. As I scour through others posts, I search for ones that update weekly. I vowed to myself," if I were to blog, I would have regular postings". I dislike waiting and wondering if I missed the email, to find that there has not been a post for a month. Now it's easy to stand on my soap box.........we'll discuss this again at a later date.

SO, next project is this battered night stand.

Boy that picture looks awful, I will be looking into editing software ASAP. Anywho, this is the canvas.

And here is the vision...
